Softball Game Preview: Blacklick Valley Vikings vs. Rockwood Rockets

The Blacklick Valley Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Rockwood Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Blacklick Valley has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Wednesday, Blacklick Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Bishop Carroll and fell 17-16. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Rockwood had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past North Star 5-4.

Sydney Beals spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Miley Pletcher was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Paelyn Sanner, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and one double.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Rockwood lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Rockwood's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-11. As for Blacklick Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Blacklick Valley suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Rockwood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
