Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gretna). They blew past the Dan River Wildcats 69-47 on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 57-44 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gretna to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ashley Myers, who went 10 for 18 on her way to 25 points and five boards. Myers is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Chinara Miller was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Dan River saw an underclassman step up: freshman Liza Maxey went 10 of 17 en route to 21 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maxey has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Samaria Knick, who posted eight points and 14 rebounds.

Gretna moved to 11-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Dan River, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the loss, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Gretna Hawks take on the Prince Edward County Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Dan River, they will challenge Tunstall at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Dan River is facing Tunstall at the right time seeing as Tunstall is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
