Basketball Game Preview: Rowe Warriors vs. Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets

The Rowe Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Rowe sitting on three straight victories and Edcouch-Elsa on seven.

Last Tuesday, Rowe earned a 51-38 win over McAllen Memorial. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Mustangs are ranked 706th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Edcouch-Elsa posted their closest victory since January 14th on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Rivera, sneaking past 71-68.

Edcouch-Elsa's win came from a few key players Rowe will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Erasmo Tamez, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Those 21 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Victor Hernandez, who went 6-for-13 on his way to 16 points.

Edcouch-Elsa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Edcouch-Elsa's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points over those games. As for Rowe, their record now sits at 24-9.
