Baseball Recap: Emerson Takes a Loss

Emerson had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it four. They fell 6-2 to the Pompton Lakes Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavaliers of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Pompton Lakes, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Pompton Lakes' part, Vinnie Stigliano was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Stigliano has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Tim Riche was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jon Popovich, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Coming up, Emerson will challenge River Dell at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Cavaliers are facing the Golden Hawks at the right time seeing as the Golden Hawks are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Pompton Lakes, they will take on Wayne Hills at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2.1, the Patriots 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
