Basketball Recap: Kahlil Bernard Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Clayton Valley Charter

After losing to Clayton Valley Charter the last time they met, Pittsburg decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Pittsburg Pirates came out on top against the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles by a score of 61-51 on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Pirates' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Ugly Eagles are ranked 116th).

Pittsburg's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kahlil Bernard, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamar Searcy, who posted eight points and five steals.

Clayton Valley Charter's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zion Grissom, who earned 16 points and three steals, and Robert Ramirez, who had eight points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jett Tran, who put up ten points.

Pittsburg now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Clayton Valley Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Pittsburg will venture away from home to square off against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pittsburg is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season. As for Clayton Valley Charter, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-32 win against Miramonte on the 13th.
