Softball Recap: Alcorn Central Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Alcorn Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wheeler Eagles, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since March 14th.

Sydnee Norman spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.

At the plate, Journey Phillips was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adysen Davis, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Alcorn Central and bumps their season record up to 12-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Wheeler, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alcorn Central will venture away from home to take on New Albany at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wheeler, they will head out to face off against Thrasher at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
