The Neumann-Goretti Saints will face off against the La Salle College Explorers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Neumann-Goretti had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Archbishop Carroll on Wednesday. The Saints were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Patriots. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Johnluca LaSpada tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Neumann-Goretti let Nick Coccia and Nicky Genzano run wild. Coccia went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Genzano went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave Coccia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Meitzler, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
Neumann-Goretti always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, La Salle College strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Shipley get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Considering the Explorers have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Declan Cawley looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keegan Wade, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Andrew Bogansky, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
La Salle College's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Neumann-Goretti, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4-1.
