Basketball Recap: Pine River-Backus Takes a Loss

After flying high against Laporte last Tuesday, Pine River-Backus came back down to earth. The Pine River-Backus Tigers took a hard 92-78 fall against the Cass Lake-Bena Panthers on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

Pine River-Backus has also traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Cass Lake-Bena, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-9.

Looking ahead, Pine River-Backus won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Upsala at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Upsala knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Pine River-Backus likes a good challenge. As for Cass Lake-Bena, they will head out to square off against Fertile-Beltrami at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
