Softball Recap: Empire Find Success

The Empire Ravens beat the Seton Catholic Sentinels 8-5 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ravens.

Vanessa Grijalva made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kapri Tiggas, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Norton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Empire's record is now 24-6. As for Seton Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 18-4.

Looking ahead, Empire will host Tanque Verde at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Ravens 3.6, the Hawks 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Seton Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
