Soccer Game Preview: St. Mary's vs. Westview

St. Mary hasn't had much luck against Westview recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The St. Mary's Knights will face off against the Westview Knights at 6:00 p.m. St. Mary's is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.4 goals per game this season.

St. Mary's is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They lost 6-1 to Thunderbird.

St. Mary's goal came courtesy of Jose Rodriguez Perez, who's now up to 14 this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westview). Their defense stepped up to hand Mohave a 4-0 shutout on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Knights needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.

Westview's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. As for St. Mary's, they now have a losing record at 4-5-1.

St. Mary's might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Westview when the teams last played back in November of 2017. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point St. Mary's was down 5-0.
