Kenly Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Naomi Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rockingham County won against Atkins on Friday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Cougars didn't even let High Point Central on the board, marking the Cougars' second-straight 15-0 shutout. Considering the Cougars have won 16 contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Southern Guilford, Rockingham County also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Grace Pruitt. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pruitt was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Rockingham County let Zoey Snead and Ella Brannock run wild. Snead went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Brannock went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Strittmatter, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Rockingham County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
Rockingham County's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Guilford, their record is now 13-3.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southern Guilford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .528. However, it's not like Rockingham County struggles in that department as they've averaged .531. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southern Guilford couldn't quite finish off Rockingham County when the teams last played back in March and fell 4-2. Can the Storm avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
