Recap: Fillmore Flashes vs. Vasquez Mustangs
The Fillmore Flashes suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Saturday. They were outmatched by Vasquez on the road and fell 82-44. While losing is never fun, Fillmore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1231st, while Vasquez is ranked 614th).
When it comes to explaining why Fillmore lost, one person who can't be blamed is Isaac Weslow. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Octavio Orozco, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Vasquez got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayden Alatorre out in front who scored 15 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Alatorre scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Rowley, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Fillmore has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Vasquez, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fillmore will take on Carpinteria at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vasquez, they will be playing at home against Valley Torah at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Valley Torah's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
