Soccer Game Preview: Smiths Station vs. Wetumpka

The Smiths Station Panthers will challenge the Wetumpka Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Smiths Station has 13 straight wins, Wetumpka has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Smiths Station's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Russell County with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering Smiths Station have won 11 contests by more than two goals this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting Russell County from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Sara Munguia led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Wetumpka lost 4-1 to Holtville on Thursday.

Smiths Station pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those six games. As for Wetumpka, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9-1.
