Basketball Recap: Grace Samuelson Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

Concordia lost to Mercy back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Concordia Mustangs took down the Mercy Monarchs 46-30. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Concordia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grace Samuelson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. That's the most points Samuelson has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Charis Hughes, who scored 11 points and eight rebounds.

Concordia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Concordia's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points over those games. As for Mercy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Concordia will challenge Gross Catholic at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mercy, they will face off against Lincoln Northwest at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercy is facing Lincoln Northwest at the right time seeing as Lincoln Northwest is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
