Softball Recap: Absegami Comes Up Short

Absegami dropped their record down to 6-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Ocean City Raiders, falling 14-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Braves, who until this match were averaging 3.75 runs allowed.

As for Ocean City, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

For Ocean City's part, Brooke Douglas made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Douglas has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Leah Catto was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Taylor Vaugh was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Absegami will welcome Atlantic County Institute of Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ocean City, they will head out to take on Egg Harbor Township at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
