Softball Recap: Montevideo Comes Up Short

Montevideo extended their losing streak to 13 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters. The Thunderhawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mainstreeters from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Sauk Centre, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 16, 2024.

For Sauk Centre's part, Jenna Riley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over eight innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave Riley a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Riley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabi Marthaler, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Looking ahead, Montevideo will square off against Redwood Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunderhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. Sauk Centre does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
