Basketball Recap: Port Huron Comes Up Short

After flying high against Kearsley last Monday, Port Huron came back down to earth. The Port Huron Red Hawks lost to the Chippewa Valley Big Reds at home by a 57-38 margin on Thursday. The Red Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Big Reds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Despite the loss, Port Huron still got an impressive performance from Mariah Turner, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 16 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Turner a new career-high in points. Madison Bezenah was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.

Port Huron's record now sits at 1-1. As for Chippewa Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Port Huron wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-21 win against Utica on the 9th. As for Chippewa Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-27 victory against Grosse Pointe North on the 11th.
