Baseball Recap: Dewey Has No Trouble Against Blackwell

Dewey won the last time they faced Blackwell and things went their way on Friday too. Dewey put the hurt on Blackwell with a sharp 11-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldoggers, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Jay Murguia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Karson Johnson looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Layne Gastel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Wilson, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Dewey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blackwell only posted an OBP of .333.

Dewey has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Blackwell and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Dewey has already played their next game, an 18-3 loss against Norman on the 21st. As for Blackwell, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Newkirk at 5:00 p.m.
