Baseball Game Preview: Regents Lions vs. Charlottesville Black Knights

The Regents Lions will head out on the road to take on the Charlottesville Black Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Regents' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Faith Christian Academy as Regents made off with a 24-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.

Sam Johnson and Grady Sawyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Johnson tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Sawyer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those two hits allowed gave Johnson a new career-low. At the plate, Johnson went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Sawyer scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Those three runs gave Johnson a new career-high.

In other batting news, Peter Mierzejewski was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Pearson, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Regents always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Faith Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .278.

Meanwhile, Charlottesville made easy work of Rocktown on Wednesday and carried off a 12-1 win.

Charlottesville got a massive performance out of Cabell Rose, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Henry Hughes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Charlottesville's record is now 2-0. As for Regents, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
