The Mount Sinai Mustangs will head out to square off against the Kings Park Kingsmen at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Mount Sinai has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mount Sinai lost 21-3 to Miller Place on Thursday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Meanwhile, Kings Park came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Buccaneers 15-7. The Kingsmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Jordana Greeney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Courtney McKenna, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Pendola, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Kings Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive contests.
Kings Park pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Mount Sinai, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Mount Sinai came out on top in a nail-biter against Kings Park in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
