Basketball Recap: Cumberland Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

Cumberland won against Heritage last Monday with 61 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. The Cumberland Pirates came out on top against the Arcola Purple Riders by a score of 61-49. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 63-36 win the Purple Riders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Cumberland pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for Arcola, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sullivan at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. Arcola will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Villa Grove at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th.
