Football Recap: Juan De La Cruz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Caprock over Canyon + How To Watch

Caprock scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 34-28 to the Canyon Eagles. The Longhorns haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Caprock lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Juan De La Cruz, who rushed for 66 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 117 yards and one TD. That passing touchdown was his first of the season. Caprock also got a significant boost from Xavier Vargas, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 125 yards.

Caprock's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Caprock and Canyon could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Longhorns will square off against Abilene at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th with a big rank disadvantage (615 vs. 98). Meanwhile, Canyon (ranked 412th) will meet Piedra Vista (ranked 11th) at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
