Softball Game Preview: Grant Cougars vs. Oak Hill Rams

The Grant Cougars will take on the Oak Hill Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Grant took on Marksville on Monday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Tigers. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Peyton Kirtland made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Saydie Willson and Emma Futrell did most of the damage at the plate: Willson scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Futrell went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Willson also launched a home run, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carleigh Roe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Grant lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Oak Hill narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Avoyelles Charter 12-10. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Oak Hill let Sadie Fredieu and Joslyn Johnson run wild. Fredieu went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI, while Johnson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Madee Danzy, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Grant's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Oak Hill, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
