Basketball Recap: Adams Central's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

It was a good run, but Adams Central unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crete Cardinals. The Patriots lost against the Cardinals in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 73-32 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Adams Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hunter Nepple posted 28 points. The contest was Nepple's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Austin Vontz was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Adams Central's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Crete, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Adams Central and Crete should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Adams Central will take on St. Cecilia at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 193 places (45 vs. 238). Adams Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Crete (ranked 24th) will meet Schuyler (ranked 275th) at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
