Basketball Recap: Avon Park Drops Season-High Score on Desoto County

While Avon Park didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the DeSoto County Bulldogs 83-60 on Friday. The Red Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Avon Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jose Silva led the charge by putting up 18 points. That's the most points Silva has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Jatavis Fuse, who posted 16 points.

Despite the loss, DeSoto County had strong showings from Rylan Unruh, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards, and Jayden Santiago, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Unruh is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Melquior Jean, who put up five points and seven rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Avon Park and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for DeSoto County, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Avon Park didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-46 win against Clewiston on the 10th. As for DeSoto County, they will welcome Fort Meade at 8:00 p.m. on December 13th.
