Basketball Recap: NorthPoint Christian Academy Comes Up Short

NorthPoint Christian Academy was the 77-52 winner over Walnut Grove Christian when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The NorthPoint Christian Academy NightHawks took an 89-76 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Walnut Grove Christian Christian Warriors on Thursday. The NightHawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, NorthPoint Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabe Spann went 12 of 17 en route to 40 points and eight boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spann has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chelan Chudgar, who posted 25 points.

Walnut Grove Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lucas Thomason out in front who put up 32 points. The dominant performance gave Thomason a new career-high in points. AJ Curerton was another key player, putting up 27 points.

NorthPoint Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Walnut Grove Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy the next time they take the court. NorthPoint Christian Academy will head out to face Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Walnut Grove Christian will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
