Falfurrias has gone 9-1 against Hebbronville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys will face off against the Hebbronville Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Last Tuesday, Falfurrias was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-32 to San Diego. The matchup marked the Fightin' Jerseys' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Despite their loss, Falfurrias saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. JB Barrera, who posted 13 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Quisto Sanchez, who put up nine points.
Meanwhile, Hebbronville played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Bishop and fell 80-38. The Longhorns were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-13.
Like Falfurrias, Hebbronville lost despite seeing results from several players. Robert Gonzalez led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Gonzalez has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Oscar Carrillo was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Hebbronville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.
Hebbronville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Falfurrias, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Falfurrias has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hebbronville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Falfurrias took their victory against Hebbronville in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 51-28. Will Falfurrias repeat their success, or does Hebbronville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
