Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Downers Grove North walked away with it. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Plainfield North Tigers an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Downers Grove North got a great performance from Jimmy Reilly as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Reilly has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brady Schallmoser was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. JD Cumbee was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Downers Grove North's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 30-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Plainfield North, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 22-13.

As of now, neither Downers Grove North nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
