Soccer Game Preview: Harlingen vs. Los Fresnos

The Harlingen Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Los Fresnos Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Harlingen will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Hanna on Tuesday. Harlingen blew past Hanna 5-1. With the Cardinals ahead 5-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Meanwhile, Los Fresnos hadn't done well against Veterans Memorial recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Los Fresnos' defense stepped up to hand Veterans Memorial a 2-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Falcons who have now won three matchups in a row.

Vicente Tamayo and Leo Perez scored both of Los Fresnos' goals, bringing their combined season tally to eight goals.

Los Fresnos' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those four contests. As for Harlingen, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8-1 record this season.

Harlingen might still be hurting after the 4-0 defeat they got from Los Fresnos when the teams last played back in January. Can Harlingen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
