Baseball Recap: Salem Academy Takes a Loss

Salem Academy had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it five. They lost 17-5 to the Colton Vikings. The Crusaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 11-4.

As for Colton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Considering they have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Colton's part, the team relied heavily on Brady Casten, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave Casten a new career-high. Wyatt Shanniak was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

While Salem Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
