Huge win boosts Allen, while St. Peter's Prep and South Panola enter the rankings.
In a Texas-sized showdown, Allen defeated DeSoto 25-22 in a victory that helped Allen move closer to the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Thanks to a fourth quarter comeback capped by a game-winning field goal with no time remaining, Allen advanced to the next round of the Class 6A-I playoffs, a bracket that also features Skyline. The victory boosted Allen to No. 2, leapfrogging NorCal power De La Salle.
The 6A-II bracket, which features ranked teams Manvel and Southlake Carroll as well as Cedar Hill and Katy, is every bit as challenging.
Entering the rankings this week are South Panola, one of Mississippi's top programs, and St. Peter's Prep, which on Saturday notched its second victory of the season over Bergen Catholic
