Football Game Preview: Pioneer Mustangs vs. Piedmont Hills Pirates + How To Watch

The Pioneer Mustangs will head out to face off against the Piedmont Hills Pirates at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Pioneer didn't have too much trouble with Silver Creek as they won 21-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Pioneer's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Christensen, who picked up 81 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Christensen didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass. Another passer making a difference was Braeden Ries, who threw for 140 yards and two TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes.

Pioneer didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Silver Creek to a completion percentage of just 42.9%. The team can thank Thomas Williams for the heroic effort on defense: he. That defensive display was nothing new: Pioneer has limited their opponent to a lower and lower completion percentage in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Piedmont Hills got the win against Overfelt on Friday by a conclusive 27-6. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Pirates had established a 20-point advantage.

Piedmont Hills' win came from a few key players Pioneer will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Diego Arias, who picked up 176 receiving yards and three touchdowns. His longest reception was for an incredible 83 yards. John Palomo was another key player, having thrown for 265 yards and three touchdowns.
