Baseball Recap: McClain Gets the Win

The home team had won the previous five meetings between McClain and Hillsboro, and McClain kept the tradition alive. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Indians 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 18, 2024.

Cohen Six spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He is becoming a predictor of McClain's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't).

At the plate, McClain's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Conner Chandler, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Matthew Cummins also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

McClain's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Hillsboro, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

McClain will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
