Softball Game Preview: Maconaquah Braves vs. Southwood Knights

The Maconaquah Braves will challenge the Southwood Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Maconaquah's tournament run continued when they took on Winamac on Saturday. The Braves lost 16-6 to the Warriors. The Braves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Shaela Brazzel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Haylee Scarlett was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Southwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Hilltop, falling 14-4.

Rowan Goodpasture made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles.

Southwood's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Maconaquah, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Maconaquah hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Southwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Maconaquah might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Southwood in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Braves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
