Basketball Recap: Florence Huskies vs. Rye Thunderbolts
Florence played a tough match on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Rye Thunderbolts, falling 42-22. The defeat continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Thunderbolts: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Florence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaydence Martinez posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Chloe Hamilton, who put up three points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Florence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their fourth loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Rye was led to victory by Kelsy Stribling and Abrianna Chianelli. Stribling had 15 points along with six boards and five steals, while Chianelli scored six points in addition to nine rebounds and six steals. Stribling has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lacie Laca, who earned five points along with nine boards and three steals.
Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Rye, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-13.
As of now, neither Florence nor Rye have any future games scheduled.
