Basketball Recap: Washington Falls Short Against Ranked Hedgesville

On Tuesday, Washington faced Hedgesville in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Washington Patriots fell just short of the Hedgesville Eagles by a score of 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Patriots have suffered against the Eagles since February 15, 2022.

Despite the defeat, Washington saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jasiah King went 8-for-14 en route to 17 points and five rebounds. Avorie Brown was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Washington was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. This was only their first loss (out of 11 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Washington's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Hedgesville, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.

Washington has already played their next match, a 60-32 defeat against Parkersburg South on the 27th. As for Hedgesville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 47-42 victory against Preston on the 1st.
