Softball Game Preview: Leonard Lancers vs. Atlantic Christian Sharks

The Leonard Lancers are taking a road trip to square off against the Atlantic Christian Sharks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leonard has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Leonard is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Suncoast just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They came up short against the Chargers, falling 18-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Lancers have suffered since February 20th.

Faith Yool and Meghan Stimson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Yool scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Stimson scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayanara Gonzalez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Atlantic Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Highlands Christian. Even if the Sharks couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Shylle Leitner and Dontavia White did some serious damage despite the final result: Leitner scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances, while White scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That stolen base was Leitner's first of the season. Mia Colon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

Atlantic Christian's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Leonard, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

Leonard came up short against Atlantic Christian in their previous matchup back in March, falling 11-7. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
