Basketball Recap: Highlands Ranch Falcons vs. Ponderosa Mustangs
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Highlands Ranch Falcons ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Ponderosa 69-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Payton TerEick, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. He also posted two blocks for the first time this season. George West III was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five assists.
Despite the loss, Ponderosa still got an impressive performance from Noah Wilhelm, who scored 29 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Wilhelm is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Keach, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Highlands Ranch's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Ponderosa, they dropped their record down to 12-5 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highlands Ranch is on the road again on Friday and plays the Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Allowing an average of 51.6 points per game, Mountain Vista has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this matchup. As for Ponderosa, they will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Heritage will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 33rd).
