Softball Recap: Pewamo-Westphalia Gets the Win

Pewamo-Westphalia lost to Saranac back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Redhawks 8-7.

Makayla McRae spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits.

On the hitting side, Peyton Eklund was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Reylee Thelen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

The victory got Pewamo-Westphalia back to even at 4-4. As for Saranac, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pewamo-Westphalia is set to take on their familiar foe Dansville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Saranac will square off against rival St. Patrick at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
