Baseball Recap: Bolton Gets the Win

Bolton proved they can win big on Monday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the East Granby Crusaders, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 24th.

Jackson AmEnde spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Bolton's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Bolton's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Christopher Mattei, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Bolton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for East Granby, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bolton will host East Hampton at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for East Granby, they will welcome Stafford at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
