The Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles will square off against the Falls Lake Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Uwharrie Charter Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
Uwharrie Charter Academy took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Southwestern Randolph, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cougars 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since March 12th.
Katelyn West made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Aubrie Kaufman and Emory Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Kaufman went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Johnson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Falls Lake got themselves on the board against East Wake Academy on Thursday, but East Wake Academy never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Eagles. The Firebirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Wynterlee Glenn, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep East Wake Academy off the board.
On the hitting side, Jolie Sensenig was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cora Cates, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Falls Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive games.
Falls Lake pushed their record up to 11-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Uwharrie Charter Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326.
