Basketball Recap: Mt. Zion Bulldogs vs. Luella Lions

The Mt. Zion Bulldogs pushed their score all the way to 65 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Luella by a score of 67-65. If Mt. Zion was looking for revenge after losing 75-66 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Defeat or not, Mt. Zion got some senior leadership from Jaki Bell and Devante Burgest. Bell scored 26 points along with four steals, while Burgest. dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 40% of Mt. Zion's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Pennell, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Mt. Zion has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Luella, their victory bumped their record up to 9-14.

Mt. Zion will head out on the road to take on the Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Woodland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Tuesday. As for Luella, they and the Warhawks will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. McDonough has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 694 points over their last ten contests.
