Basketball Recap: Animo Robinson Comes Up Short

Animo Robinson lost against Downtown Magnets two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Animo Robinson Monarchs fell just short of the Downtown Magnets Suns by a score of 42-40.

Despite the defeat, Animo Robinson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Deandre Kirkpatrick dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. The match was Kirkpatrick's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Roger Shackelford was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Animo Robinson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Justin Huang continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Downtown Magnets, going 10 of 23 on his way to 23 points and six steals. That's the most steals Huang has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Agustin, who posted six points along with seven assists and four steals.

Animo Robinson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Downtown Magnets, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Animo Robinson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-49 loss against Reseda on the 4th. As for Downtown Magnets, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 43-41 win against Fremont on the 4th.
