Baseball Recap: Emerald Vikings vs. Westside Rams
Emerald extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 9-13 in the process. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westside Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 on Monday.
Emerald saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Swancey, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Aaron Polly was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Westside, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.
On Westside's side, Peyton Milford looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Milford has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Westside got a massive performance out of Phoenix Herndon, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Herndon has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jacob Holmes, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Westside beat Emerald by a score of 5-0 on Friday.
