Football Recap: Wilcox-Hildreth Takes a Loss

Wilcox-Hildreth had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-4 to make it four. They fell 42-34 to the Elm Creek Buffaloes. The Falcons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Buffaloes from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Wilcox-Hildreth saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Drew Blank rushed for 155 yards on only 13 carries. Blank's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

As for Elm Creek, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.8 points over those games.

Elm Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keston Beavers, who rushed for 126 yards and one TD. Kole Steiner was another key player, rushing for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Wilcox-Hildreth and Elm Creek are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against Central Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' defense has only allowed 4.9 points per game this season, so Wilcox-Hildreth's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Elm Creek, they will be playing at home against Deshler at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Beavers and Quincy Orme.
