Football Recap: Wilcox-Hildreth Takes a Loss

Wilcox-Hildreth had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-4 to make it four. They took a 42-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elm Creek Buffaloes. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 34-30 to the Buffaloes when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Wilcox-Hildreth saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Drew Blank rushed for 155 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 110 yards and one TD. Blank's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Brody Patterson was another key player, rushing for 60 yards and one score.

As for Elm Creek, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.8 points over those games.

Elm Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keston Beavers out in front who rushed for 126 yards and one TD. Blake Erickson got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Wilcox-Hildreth and Elm Creek are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Falcons will square off against Central Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wilcox-Hildreth will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Elm Creek, they will challenge Deshler at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Beavers and Quincy Orme.
