Baseball Recap: Wallkill Triumphs

Wallkill won against Warwick on Wednesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Panthers beat the Saugerties Sawyers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-3. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Sawyers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Ryan Mayer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mayer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zach Kantor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. John Harrington was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

The victory got Wallkill back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, Wallkill will take on Roosevelt at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Saugerties, they will face off against Pine Plains at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
