Softball Game Preview: Culver City Centaurs vs. Silverado Hawks

The Culver City Centaurs will square off against the Silverado Hawks at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Culver City is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Everything went their way against Los Amigos as they made off with a 13-3 victory. That's two games straight that the Centaurs have won by exactly ten runs.

Culver City got a great performance from Anyah Francis as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Francis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alahna Moran and Hayden Martin did most of the damage at the plate: Moran went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Martin went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Martin has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Christen Hardy-Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Silverado came tearing into Saturday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 16-4 win.

Silverado got a massive performance out of Aryhana Shyne, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Valdez, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Silverado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 13 consecutive contests.

The victory made it two in a row for Culver City and bumps their season record up to 11-14. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Silverado, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-11.
