Basketball Recap: Calexico Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Edgar Mendoza and Dany Carreon

Calexico dropped down to 4-2 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 50-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shadow Hills Knights. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 65-37.

Despite the loss, Calexico had strong showings from Dany Carreon, who posted 13 points and six rebounds, and Edgar Mendoza, who put up 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sabino Martinez, who earned two points.

As for Shadow Hills, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games.

Ivan Acosta went supernova, shooting 54% from the field on his way to 20 points and six boards. What's more, he also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January. Nate Williams was another key player, going 5-for-12 en route to 13 points.

Calexico wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 78-40 win against Southwest EC on the 5th. As for Shadow Hills, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-51 defeat against Brawley on the 5th.
