Baseball Game Preview: Rodriguez Mustangs vs. Laguna Creek Cardinals

The Rodriguez Mustangs will head out to take on the Laguna Creek Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

Rodriguez fell victim to San Ramon Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since March 15, 2024.

Rodriguez got a good showing from Austin Krebs, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Rodriguez saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kolby Jones, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That hit marked the first that Jones got this season.

Meanwhile, Laguna Creek entered their game against East Union on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Laguna Creek fell just short of East Union by a score of 5-3.

Jose DeTrinidad made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 5-2. As for Rodriguez, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Rodriguez's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. Rodriguez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Laguna Creek, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Rodriguez continue to outrun the ball?

Rodriguez came up short against Laguna Creek in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 5-1. Can Rodriguez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
